Yashasvi Jaiswal Misses Out as India Announce Squad for England ODI Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal

India has prepared a strong-looking squad for the three-match ODI series versus England as well as prominent point player Yashasvi Jaiswal neglected to locate an area in the lineup despite his century in playing within his last suit against Afghanistan. In the third match of the ODI series against Afghanistan, Jaiswal registered his second century in just six innings in ODIs by scoring an unbeaten 110, thus staking a claim for a spot on the squad.

With this impressive display, Jaiswal is establishing himself as one of the batting stars of the future for India. But that was not enough for him to earn a spot in the final fifteen picked for neighboring England.

Leaving Jaiswal out of the squad is a reflection on how well-stocked India’s batting cupboard is as they gear up for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa. The chances of putting themselves into contention are limited, with so many familiar players returning to the fold.

The most notable changes to India’s ODI team for the next series against England are the return of Virat Kohli, who had been ruled out of Afghanistan ODI series due to hamstring injury and Yashasvi Jaiswal replaced Kohli in the side. Kohli is currently to undergo a fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, which will determine his availability for selection for the England tour.

One of the major talking points among cricket fans as well as commentators on social media and sports media have paid much attention to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s call-up, with some implying that there should be a different path outlined by some of India’s selectors in terms of what his future holds going forward in the space for one-day game.

Another key comeback to the Indian ODI setup is Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah returns to the Indian ODI setup for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final after a planned workload management strategy helps India significantly bolster their fast bowling stocks.

Axar Patel returns after missing the last three ODI tours for India to South Africa, New Zealand and Afghanistan, providing balance with his all round ability.

The returning duo take the places of two players who made their ODI debuts versus Afghanistan. The fast-bowling debutant Prince Yadav makes way for the return of Bumrah with left-arm pace bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey sitting out following Axar Patel’s return.

This ODI squad also misses Hardik Pandya. During the Afghanistan ODI series, Pandya was named in the England tour squad before a leg strain prevented him from undertaking any part of it, having picked up an injury during training at the Centre of Excellence.

The batting group led by Shubman Gill (c) has plenty of experience with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan, while the bowling group which includes Bumrah will feature Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana Prasidh Krishna along with Kuldeep Yadav and Gurnoor Brar.

As the first matches draw ever closer, with each and every squad and injury report alike being chased down by some excited observers on social media. Also, lots of fans are wondering themselves how to access cricket betting sites like 007 Book even in the context of larger-scale international events and are looking for the best online cricket ID provider in India. It will be the first ODI of a three-match series starting in Birmingham on July 14. The second ODI will take place in Cardiff on July 16 and the third and final ODI at Lord’s three days later on July 19.
