Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Innings Powers India A to Tri-Series Title

India A emerged champion of the One-Day Tri-Series by defeating Sri Lanka A by a large margin of 66 runs at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday, thanks to an outstanding performance from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who put on one of the most exciting performances yet seen in List A cricket history.

In his innings of 94 runs off 29 balls, Vaibhav demonstrated tremendous hitting ability with 10 fours and 8 sixes, and he achieved the fastest half-century in List A’s history, scoring 50 runs after only 11 balls. His accomplishment eclipsed the previous record for fastest half-century that had been held for over 20 years, displaying exceptional strength, timing, and confidence against the Sri Lankan bowling attack.

In the final match of the tournament, Sooryavanshi made sure he was going to be on top of his game. Hitting a boundary on every one of his first five balls and continuing to be aggressive with a high rate of scoring, he helped India A to be at 132 runs with only one out in the 9th over, putting Sri Lanka A under tremendous pressure. He was out trying to hit over the top again to the captain, Wanuja Sahan Arachchige and caught by the mid-off fielder.

While Sooryavanshi stole the headlines, India A received important contributions from the middle order as well. With a solid 67 runs from Tilak Varma and 40 from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the two players formed an important partnership of 84 runs after the fireworks from the first two wickets. But after they lost the first two wickets to run out and were only at 132 after 9 overs, India A had lost momentum through the middle overs and finished at 334 for 8, raising significant questions as to if they could take advantage of the good start.

Anukul Roy then produced the much-needed final assault. He hit 39 runs off 15 balls, including four sixes, and helped India A make a large score of 377 for 9. Vipraj Nigam hit 27 runs quickly so that the batting team could finish strongly.

Sri Lanka A needed a better start in their attempt to chase down 378 runs but lost early wickets due to Yash Thakur dismissing Niroshan Dickwella, Avishka Fernando, and Nuwanidu Fernando, leaving them in a bad position. Sadeera Samarawickrama (52) and Wanuja Sahan (62) managed to put runs on the board but were unable to keep up with the required run rate increasing.

Bowlers from India A kept Sri Lanka A’s chase completely under control. Thakur’s bowling statistics were 3-45, Vipraj Nigam (leg-spinning all-rounder) had 3-60 and Roy helped himself with two vital wickets; one of those being the crucial wicket of Vijaykanth Viyaskanth who was batting alongside his partner in the dangerous seventh-wicket partnership.

Ultimately, Sri Lanka A were able to get to 311 runs but were out in the 48th over, giving India A an emphatic win and accompanying their trophy for the
