India Crush Netherlands by 95 Runs to Go Top of Group 1 in Women’s T20 World Cup

India produced an all-round show to record a crushing 95-run win over the Netherlands. With great contributions through Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and Shree Charani, India registered their highest-ever total in Women’s T20 World Cup before dismissing the Netherlands for just 114.

India’s victory was their second in the tournament and took them to the top of Group A, above Australia, on net run rate. The Netherlands, meanwhile, are still without a victory in two matches.

Building Block: Mandhana and Shafali

Great Start by India Mandhana in an opening partnership with Shafali Verma after being asked to bat first under overcast conditions. The duo added 115 runs for the opening wicket and completely thrashed the Netherlands bowling attack during the powerplay and middle overs.

Besides the tried and trusted formula, Mandhana opened the dousing of international fire with a classy 74 off 47 balls that flew past boundaries in no time while hitting them over deep midwicket like rockets. At the other end, Shafali finally reached a long overdue T20 World Cup fifty on her third attempt. The 34-ball fifty by the aggressive opener saw her score 55 runs before she fell in the 12th over.

While not hitting many of their shots aerially, the Indian openers kept the scoring rate close to ten runs an over. This partnership set the tone for a big total from which the Dutch bowlers never recovered.

The Extras Kill the Netherlands, Big Missed Chances

It was a grim day in the field for Netherlands, letting 16 runs go in extras and being made to pay for their chances. The inconsistency was underlined in the second dig with Myrthe van den Raad, who also bowled a slew of wides yet whilst doing so contained the run rate at times.

The Dutch did have a fleeting fightback in the middle overs. Mandhana was de Lange’s next victim, and van den Raad accounted for Jemimah Rodrigues shortly thereafter. When India was placed at 162 for 3, it all looked like things are normal but soon the game got into a sort of a sluggish phase.

But there had been several dropped catches that were expensive. Ghosh got two lives, and Harmanpreet Kaur enjoyed a reprieve as well in the final over of the innings. India capitalized, plundering 41 runs from the last three overs to post a powerful if not imposing total of 209 for 5.

Stand-in captain Ghosh was unbeaten on an 8-ball 20 to finish things off in style after a superb batting effort.

Spin Attack Dominates Dutch Chase

The Netherlands, chasing a challenging target of 210, were off to a positive start. Heather Siegers hit some lovely strokes during her 16-ball 21, while Phebe Molkenboer looked to be aggressive at the top of the line-up.

Even though the game had started in an aggressive manner, India’s spin bowlers soon exerted their grip on the contest. As the innings went on, however, it suited them because of how slow and low the surface was.

In an unfortunate incident, Shreyanka Patil got injured in the ankle while fielding and had to be stretchered off. India kept full control with their superb spin attack, although they lost one of them.

Bowling Performance of Shafali and Charani

India’s all-round effort was wrapped up by Shafali Verma taking three for 20. Their slower ones troubled Dutch batters throughout the innings and also yielded important middle-overs breakthroughs.

Captain Babette de Leede tried to up the scoring rate but was left hanging miles out of her crease. When Kalis stepped on the throttle against Shafali’s slow bowling, she too fell.

But the left-arm spinner Shree Charani was the pick of the bowlers. She was instrumental at the top in claiming a superb 4 for 19 to rip through the Dutch middle and lower-order.

It was the disciplined nature of India’s spell, which created enough pressure that Frederique Overdijk and Robine Rijke were dismissed while attempting to attack Charani.

Dramatic Collapse Ends the Contest

The Netherlands kept the attacking air going, though, as the required run rate climbed beyond reach. Nonetheless, the dangers led to a constant flow of wickets.

The innings crumbled more rapidly towards the end, with their last five wickets falling for just one run in nine balls. It then underlined the extent of Indian dominance from the start.

It was a fitting end, with Shafali involved in the final wicket as Isabel van der Woning lofted a big shot. It was, however, Jemimah Rodrigues who took a brilliant catch at long-on to ensure victory and secure India the number one spot in this group.

India Send Strong Title Message

This match demonstrated the depth of India’s batting order and proficiency of their spin attack. In one of the most comprehensive performances in Indian T20 World Cup history, Mandhana’s fluent 74, Shafali’s all-round brilliance and Charani’s match-winning spell gelled together.

India seems to have established themselves as contending finalists with the confidence that has built up and with net run rate now in their favor. Those watchers tuning into the competition and rooting for their individual groups, even fans with an online cricket ID or online betting ID, saw a great demonstration, which might bode well later on in the occasion.
